A husband feared his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he thought that she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach his wife, the husband called the a Doctor to discuss the problem.

The Doctor told the husband that there is a simple informal test the husband could perform, "Stand about 40 feet away from her and in a normal conversational speaking tone speak to your wife and see if she hears you.

If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response from your wife."

That evening, his wife was in the kitchen cooking dinner. The husband started asking his wife exactly as the doctor had told him, 30 feet, 20 feet, 10 feet and then in her ears. “What's for dinner?”

The reply from the wife was, “This is the fifth and last time I am saying CHICKEN.”
